What I loved the most about this story is the way the characters were written in such as a way that they seemed so real, realistic and were quite colorful. This book started a bit slow for me, but I quickly got into it after a short while. This is a story about real people and real-life issues, love, betrayal, addiction, deceit, loyalty, commitment, forgiveness and healing. A number of my bookish friends really like her work and, in a bid to discover new authors I decided to try one of her books. It follows the life of Odile Souchet in Paris as a young librarian at The American Library, and then as an older woman living in rural Montana, befriending the teenager girl next door, Lily.Īlmost all the characters (not Odile or Lily) are based on real life people working at this library in Paris during the Nazi occupation in WWII. This is your classic historical fiction that jumps back and forth from past (1940s) and the present (1980s). Unfortunately, the book didn’t live up to my expectations for this one. “Words are worth fighting for, they are worth the risk.” Books the fresh air breathed in to keep the heart beating, to keep the brain imagining, to keep hope alive.” The three newest Braves have each other to lean on, as well as a new group of fans who are swept away by pennant fever, but balancing everything this new world has to offer may prove to be the greatest challenge of all. The movie attempts to make a compelling case for historicity of Jesus’ resurrection. This Friday, April 7, a motion picture adaptation of “The Case for Christ” is being released. His book became one of the bestselling works of Christian apologetic (that is, a defense of the reasonableness and accuracy of Christianity) of all time. Strobel, however, was unable to refute these claims to his satisfaction, and he then converted to Christianity as well. Paramount among these was the historicity of Jesus’ resurrection, but other claims included the belief in Jesus as the literal Son of God and the accuracy of the New Testament writings. In 1998, Lee Strobel, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune and a graduate of Yale Law School, published “The Case for Christ: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus.” Strobel had formerly been an atheist and was compelled by his wife’s conversion to evangelical Christianity to refute the key Christian claims about Jesus. She is angry for the murder of their first born daughter, Iphigenia, which Agamemnon has sacrificed in order to appease the goddess Artemis. Clytemnestra, his wife, awaits his return by planning his murder. “ The Oresteia” is Aeschylus most famous work, a trilogy of dramas that includes “ Agamemnon,” “ The Libation Bearers,” and “ The Eumenides.” In the first work of the trilogy, Agamemnon, King of Argos, is returning home from the Trojan War. Like other writers of his time, he acted in his own plays, and trained the chorus in their dances and songs and did much to improve the performances by his development of scene and costume on the stage. Before him tragedy had consisted of the chorus and one actor and by introducing a second actor, expanding the dramatic dialogue, and reducing the lyrical parts, he practically created Greek tragedy as we know it. The importance of Aeschylus in the development of drama cannot be overstated. Does this make it a bad book? No, not at all. This is theoretically a prequel to the original Peter Pan story, and I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I get the feeling that Barry and Pearson have never read the original, because so much of it is Disney, and so little is Barrie. Call it an alternative history of Peter Pan. So, this Peter must be someone different, because he is a twelve- or thirteen-year-old orphan boy who has been dumped aboard this ratty old ship with five other kids from the Orphanage. I mean after all, anyone who has read Barrie's classic knows Peter was carried off by fairies as a baby from his pram in Kensington Gardens. At this point I had NO idea that the book purported to be a sequel to J.M. I picked it up and read the first few pages. Oh well.Īnyway sitting up there along with a sequel to Inkheart was a book called Peter and the Starcatchers by, of all people, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson! How curious. Looking in the SF and Fantasy section were all the series books one could want, and many that no one could want. Oh well, save it for later along with Anselm Audley's Inquisition) and I knew I would finish it before the first hop was over. I had a 90% read copy of The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud which was a re-read (and now I find that I haven't reviewed it. I was at a book kiosk at the airport looking for something for the flight back.
