It also highlighted the complicated nature of love in marriage, how you can be married to someone for years and know the person well and yet not know the person at all. What I loved the most about this story is the way the characters were written in such as a way that they seemed so real, realistic and were quite colorful. This book started a bit slow for me, but I quickly got into it after a short while. This is a story about real people and real-life issues, love, betrayal, addiction, deceit, loyalty, commitment, forgiveness and healing. This threatens to tear the family apart and they all find themselves at different points where they have to decide what is really most important in their lives. On Johnny’s fiftieth birthday, Cara, wife to the second Casey brother Ed, has a concussion and blurts out secrets that affects almost everyone in the family. Jessie, who is wife to Johnny the oldest of the Casey brothers is the family matriarch who pulls everyone together by frequently organizing family get-togethers and is loved for her generosity. ‘Grown Ups’ follows the Casey family, three brothers, their wives and children. A number of my bookish friends really like her work and, in a bid to discover new authors I decided to try one of her books.
